My small group from church went to go see Meet the Robinsons yesterday. (We opted out of 300 because of the kids)(just kidding).
Meet the Robsinsons is actually a pretty fun movie, especially if you are a fan of animation history and inventions. We saw it in 3D and it actually enhanced the movie instead of taking away from it. My favorite parts were the fades. Different depths transitioned at different times. Beautiful.
The jokes are actually pretty funny. In a 5-minute stretch of film we are bombarded with a dog whose insurance doesn’t cover contacts, a life-size toy train, an uncle who shoots himself and meatballs out of a cannon, a 400 pound couch potato who “works out”, a 3D rendered Tom Selleck, potted plants that compete for which side’s doorbell will get rung by the visitor, and a mom who is the bandleader for genetically altered frogs that sing like Frank Sinatra (a villain later in the film gets escorted by two suit-wearing frogs to the trunk of a car to “sleep with the fishes”). It’s a whirlwind of craziness/randomness without resorting to crude humor.
Also of note is the classic Chip and Dale/Donald Duck cartoon that has been made 3D (still cell drawings but now there are layers). Well worth the ticket price.
