’08 is off to a fun start at inlawfilms.com.
Some new things for the new year:
- In addition to our Amazon store, we also have a store for our In-Law Films merchandise.
- Jeremy’s gift was a huge success and I’ve had some people ask for shirts made from the “Son of a Nutcracker’s Guide to Disc Jockery”. At our merchandise store you can find t-shirts, onesies, hoodies, mugs/Dwarven steins, and even clocks. It’s like ThinkGeek if it were run by monkeys being beaten by Socialist chimpanzees.
- ’08 has some big entertainment stuff coming out. Just like my reserved excitement for Indy 4, I don’t quite know what to think about Force Unleashed. Sure, for the PS3 and XBOX it’ll be cool like Jedi Academy, but the Wii has huge potential. April 9 looms menacingly. But will LucasArts pull a LEGO Star Wars and not have online multiplayer for the Wii alone? There’s going to be one-on-one duel mode, which has me not excited because they may just call that good. It’s being developed by Krome Studios separate from the PS3 and XBOX game developers. Krome is also working on the PS2 and PSP versions. This stinks of the Spider-Man 3 game that was dumbed down for the Wii versus the PS3 and XBOX. All I can think of is how from FFX to FFXII, using the same technology, Square was able to jump in utilizing the processing power available.
Don’t give me lazy algorithms! (Like my momma used to say, your DMM engine can work if your programmers write cleaner code.)
My prediction? unmet expectations. - But the storyline to Force unleashed DOES look cool with the thought of the new live-action series in the works. Will this be an unofficial pilot? Funny note about character design: Juno Eclipse, the name of the Imperial pilot/love interest, was supposed to be the original name for Asajj Ventress but didn’t sound villainess enough.
- Horton Hears a Who is going to rock, mainly because Tom Leavitt rocks. Yeah, Blue Sky Studio! Yeah, value of babies!
- Wall-E is going to have a premise like Steven Spielberg/Stanley Kubrick’s AI. Humans are long gone and aliens learn about humanity through one of our creations and in turn we learn what it’s like to be human. How flippin’ sweet. But just like all of their trailers, they make me cringe about the movie and then it turns out to be decent.
- Yeah, Get Smart! Steve Carrell is officially the man after having watched all of Season 1 and starting into Season 2 of The Office.
- Wachowski Brothers and Speed Racer? Bullet-time sidekick monkeys, my friend.
- Anything more than the theme song to enjoy about Iron Man? Nope.
- Is it really until July that we have to wait for Dark Knight?
- There’s a Knight Rider made-for-TV movie in the works with a Mustang as KITT.
- Another Garfield movie will come out. Brains will weep.
- January 6 brings American Gladiators.
- People will stop searching for “cloverfield spoilers” but will still search for “mccutchen whiskey”.
- There will be more reality shows.
The Haiku
Even though I am
a little nervous I think
Unleashed will still rock.

Much of my free time is being spent in anticipation of Hellboy 2. The comic is great, Ron Perlman is perfect in the role, and I’m excited at rumors that this movie will look more to folklore over action, like the comics do.
Story over action? What interest would I have over that? (smile)
