So, I’ve been teaching my students about Wikipedia. Check out the Alan F. Horn entry.
Yep, DC and Warner Brothers are trying to get Christian Bale and Chris Nolan before too late.
The DC rep booed Bryan Singer’s Superman Returns and they’re going to release YET ANOTHER introduction/origin story of Superman (but darker…because that’s popular, according to Jeff Robinov). Here’s a quote from Alan F. Horn:
I thought Superman Returns (2006) was a very successful movie, but I think it should have done $500 million worldwide. We should have had perhaps a little more action to satisfy the young male crowd.
Michael Keaton (Batman and Chick Hicks (from Cars)) will voice Ken in Toy Story 3.
Andy goes off to college and the toys get donated to a day care.
There will be two other big DC character movies coming out within the next four years.
Veronica Mars/Scary Lightning Chick will be in a new Astro Boy movie.
Shia LaBooBoo will be in Transformers 2: Revenge of the Fallen. Yep. Screenwriter quoted as wanting a “darker feel” with villains getting more screen time. Also, Witwicky in real life injured his hand in a car accident and Michael Bay is working that into the storyline.
I’m surprisingly neutral about all of these announcements.
Semi-related posts:
I’m interested in seeing another Batman film. There’s a very natural progression in the storyline that would lead to a cool third film, I think. Hopefully we’ll see it. The Joker will be hard to top, though.
Otherwise, Batman can just go take on the Evil League of Evil.
Beyond that, I’m just ambivalent about these. Not a Superman fan, not that interested in Astro Boy, though I’m a fan of Kristen Bell. But she just makes me wonder when they’re going to release Fanboys, and if we’ll ever see the original cut.
Nothing can ever be inspiring and joyful anymore. It’s like they’re either too afraid or too lazy to try to emulate the same type of masterful work that’s done in Dark Knight, but make it bright and hopeful.
The Dark Knight is understandable, because it’s Batman, and because Gotham’s in a state of constant darkness, and the sun does not shine down on that part of New York for some reason, and it’s constantly colder than Alaska, judging by the amount of coverings the people have worn in the movies. That’s Batman though, he’s meant to be a demented psychopath. The perfect portrayal of what Batman is really supposed to be like is Christian Bale in the scene where he has aggressive negotations with the Joker.
Why did Superman III fail? Because it portrayed Superman becoming evil off of some type of tainted kryptonite. No-one wanted to see that, because Superman is supposed to represent everything good, and he’s supposed to portray a more hopeful world. This is why there’s such a dramatic difference in the settings of Metropolis and Gotham, it’s representative of the personalities of each character and the kind of people they’re both saving.
I posted on IGN under the same type of article, about how enormously disappointing it would be if this new Superman movie turns out to be psycho Superman that’s depressed and has nothing to live for anymore because Lois found someone else. That garbage is seen everyday in real life, we don’t need to see the character Superman become that as well.
No more Brandon Routh. He did great playing Christopher Reeve as Superman, but it’s time to find an actor who can do the best portrayal of a new Superman. Don’t do the movie if you can’t find the right actor to do the job the right way. Donate the money to charity or another Batman movie, but please do not let Nicholas Cage or Ben Affleck or George Clooney do this movie..and please no Val Kilmer.
Improvements must also be made to Jimmy Olson, Lois Lane and Perry White, and Lex Luthor. Perry White and Lex Luthor are the two toughest really to portray.
Robert Downey Jr. didn’t like Dark Knight:

“My whole thing is that I saw ‘The Dark Knight’. I feel like I’m dumb because I feel like I don’t get how many things that are so smart. It’s like a Ferrari engine of storytelling and script writing and I’m like, ‘That’s not my idea of what I want to see in a movie.’ I loved ‘The Prestige’ but didn’t understand ‘The Dark Knight’. Didn’t get it, still can’t tell you what happened in the movie, what happened to the character and in the end they need him to be a bad guy. I’m like, ‘I get it. This is so high brow and so [expletive] smart, I clearly need a college education to understand this movie.’ You know what? [Expletive] DC comics. That’s all I have to say and that’s where I’m really coming from.”
LOL “You know what? (Bleep) DC comics, that’s where I’m COMIN FROM” wow..Iron Man’s got some jealousy toward Bruce Wayne.
