I think it’s the food poisoning talking. Yesterday I was annoyed by a teenager driving erratically in the parking lot and I muttered, “Stupid 09ers driving their daddy’s car.” My wife’s obsession with Veronica Mars has evidently transferred to me.

I think the bad fish taco has attached to my brain. I could have sworn I saw that Microsoft now has the Double Rainbow Guy on payroll.

I did read a forwarded message today, though. The video was worth watching. A staff member watched over my shoulder and said that the speaker in the video had been to her church and that started a conversation. Here’s the video.

Today a high school librarian e-mailed all of the secondary librarians in the district about how her principal was horrified learning what the junior high librarians were asking for.

I wanted to Reply All: “How horrified? Like ‘Holocaust’ horrified or ‘Jersey Shore’ horrified?”

I think it’s best that it remains an e-mail not sent. All I know is that the release date for Black Ops is too far away.

E3 Games and MarioKart Wii Hackers

Tonight I played MarioKart Wii with a good friend of mine and my wife. We decided to jump onto the MarioKart Wii Wi-Fi network to take on our region of players in the world. I am extremely impressed with how easy the Wii connectivity setup is and the way MarioKart’s multiplayer is set up to where the user really doesn’t experience much of any lag at all. The team-based play all around is addicting. There came a point in tonight’s gaming where a person joined by the name of “asertea.com” and when the match started right off the bat he’s in star mode as well as gigantic mode, along with having an infinite amount of red shells shooting out at all directions at such a rapid speed that all you hear is happy music but all you see are red shells flying all over the place and everybody in the game getting tossed rampantly around the map. One thing I did find hilarious about this was that when I unlocked my Mii to be able to play in the game my Mii sounds like Barney the purple dinosaur with sayings like, “Heeeeyyyy!!” “Wooowwwwweee!” “YAAAYYY!!!” so to hear these three phrases being said rapidly over and over again as my guy is being violently thrown around a retro-SNES race track while this happy music is playing made me laugh to the point of tears.
Something tells me that if this had taken place on my PS3 in a Modern Warfare 2 server, it would not have gone so well for the hacker as the amount of sheer verbal abuse they would endure from the other players would be enough for them to seek psycho-therapy.

E3 looked great, and of the many games that are coming out I’d say I’m looking forward to “The Old Republic” the most, as well as “GoldenEye” which is coming out on the Nintendo Wii. I remember several days where I’d be up all hours of the night playing with a neighbor of mine while growing up. The moment this game gets to pre-order status I’m jumping on it.

My only real complaint about future games is that I think there needs to be a “Left 4 Dead” on the PS3. If you’re looking for a game to freak you out while you play it at night this is it. I had gone over to a friend’s house to play the original Left 4 Dead with him on his XBox 360 and it was unbelievably terrifying as we played it in a pitch-black room with surround sound hooked up in full theater-style. All I will say is I’ve never been terrified like I was in that moment. FEAR 3 is another game that is coming out that will provide some pretty freaky stuff for the player.

The future of gaming is looking very bright in my opinion, and I hope it continues to progress.

The weird factor of Superman III and IV

I was talking with the tech guy at one of my schools and he brought up how his son’s favorite superhero is Superman, and then we started to chat about the movies that have all come out since the original motion picture. We all know that Superman I and II were epic in their own rights, and we also know that both of those movies have an entirely different feel to them than either Superman III and IV. I recently watched footage of Christopher Reeve on the Johnny Carson show giving an interview just prior to Superman III’s release. What I found funny is that he specifically intimates in later interviews after the movie that he believed Superman was meant to be a high quality and special character, and once the quality of sequels starts to diminish then it’s time to hang up the towel and pursue another path.

Superman III:

In this movie, Superman takes some time away from Metropolis to go visit Smallville as his alter-ego Clark Kent because of a high school class reunion, where he meets up with Lana Lang again. While in Smallville, Richard Pryor enters into the picture as a computer genius that’s unemployed and looking for an easy way to get rich by working for (a poor-man’s Lex Luthor) Richard Vaughn’s character “Russ Webster”. What I find interesting about this movie is that there’s so much focus and emphasis on trying to make Pryor fit into a Superman movie, that it comes off so awkward like it’s a distorted and twisted comedy. My biggest beef with this movie is that it takes Superman into his evil side by having Richard Pryor expose him to “red kryptonite”(which I’ve never heard of since in any Superman related storyline). This is another awkward scene from the movie in which evil superman battles Clark Kent in a junkyard apprently on Liberty Island: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XY3dxb5OpIw

But in the end all is good:

Superman IV:

According to Reeve’s interview with Carson, there was actually never supposed to be a Superman IV, as he said that he would hang up the cape after number III. My guess is that because of the epic box office let down of Superman III, the studio felt it would be such a horrible note to end on to leave the Superman movies off on the events of Superman III, so they decided to try it again with a fourth film in which the theme was based on “anti-nuclear warheads”. In this film, Superman takes it upon himself to end the world-wide nuclear threat by vowing to collect all nuclear weapons and flying them all out into space and hurling them at the sun. One thing I found very interesting is that I was always under the impression that there was only one “Nuclear Man” which is the pet villain of Lex Luthor in this film. In an early deleted scene, there is actually a “first nuclear man”:

All in all I can definitely understand why the Superman franchise is expected to get a total reboot in 2011 with “Superman: Man of Steel”, considering that the last film to feel like it does the franchise justice was Superman II…with all it’s “KNEEL BEFORE ZOD”-ness.

I’ve had some interesting conversations over the past few weeks debating and analyzing trades, free agent prospects as well as just how I never thought I’d see the day when the Cardinals would be the team that gives Arizona sports fans the most hope for a better day. I was recently in a heated debate with a friend about the future of Lakers Free Agent Lamar Odom and how it would relate to the newest acquisition of Ron Artest when somehow another friend worked the new age artist ‘Enya’ into the conversation, stating that Ron Artest better start listening to Enya because that’s all the kind of stuff that Lakers coach Phil Jackson believes in. Then the conversation got even weirder when my friend said that he thought Enya was “hot” and that he wanted to marry her. When he said that, this picture immediately came to mind:

As the conversation progressed I felt the need to beg the question, “Man are you serious about all this?” followed by, “She’s crazy, have you heard the music she creates? Do you realize how weird that crap is? If I was married to her, I’d be afraid that in the middle of the night I might wake up from a sound sleep to see her draping herself in sheets dancing around the room while covering her face with paint singing ‘Sail away sail away sail away..” He then responded with, “yeah that would be weird wouldn’t it…but man it’s ok cause it all shows her creativity and free spirit… I respect that.” After an awkward pause, we moved on back to talking about free agency soon following that.

Ah….what NBA Free Agency does to the sports fan’s mind….

The Camel Spider. That is one massive beastly spider. Out of curiosity spurred by Booyor-izzle’s gigantic Gator Gar or whatever that thing is, I took the challenge upon myself to find something that might challenge that Gator Gar for “Things to keep you awake at night” and so here is this thing. These are generally found in the desert, these things also vary in size from very small to ridiculous large. If you are bitten by one of these things, all I can say is get help. Much like scorpions the lethality level of these things is dependent on their size. Here is another form of the camel spider:

I have discovered the surefire method to killing both of these freakish things that not even a can of Ultra-Raid Spray can do. This weapon is so powerful that if you shoot the Gator Gar or this spider, it will send a telepathic message to all of their respective kinds saying, “Step the Eff Off o’ me”.

Our Next Fishing Trip? The Alligator Gar

This thing looks like it’s straight outta Monster Hunter or a Peter Benchley novel.

The alligator gar is native to the southern United States. Fishers hate them because they tear up bass and other trophy fish.

But these things can grow up to eight feet long and top 300 pounds. The babies are three feet long. You don’t catch these with a rod and reel. It turns out that the favored tactic is shooting them with a crossbow. [insert your own World War Z/Left 4 Dead references here]

A Little Lesson In Shaqology

With the NBA season officially ending in the crowning of the Los Angeles Lakers as champions of the world, there’s been an active off-season so far for many teams in the league. One of those teams that’s made some changes and looks to continue is the Phoenix Suns by sending Shaq-deezy fo Sheezy over to the Cleveland Cavaliers for Ben Wallace and a Euro of some kind. The ESPN world has talked about this trade, some are skeptical of the Cavs chances at a title considering that Shaq is now 37 years old and virtually a shell of his former self. I say that whenever you put a 7’2 335 lbs human tank in the middle of the paint it can cause problems for any team. Another reason to be a little concerned by the Cavs is that this Diesel is now paired with one who many claim to be the Messianic Savior of the NBA sitting at the right hand of Michael Jordan’s throne above the heights of the basketball heavens…LeBron James. Not only is LeBron James playing like a cheat code in a basketball video game, but the guy is a bombastic out-going energetic personality. In fact, the whole team’s locker room is already known for their pre-game antics with stunts such as this:

You add to that crazy group of guys the man who deems himself now the “Colossal Cavalier” –

and you’ve got a locker room that will make you wet yourself of laughter before you even get on the court.

Meanwhile on the Phoenix Suns front…well…it’s hot outside…and…well I guess the question would be is what exactly is the direction of their team? Who knows but whatever happens unfortunately I don’t think they won’t be sniffing a Western Conference Finals for quite some time, and that’s very sad to say after remembering the not so distant team they had with Joe Johnson, Quentin Richardson, Eddie House, etc..

Axel Foley is slated to make a return appearance in “Beverly Hills Cop IV” in 2010, the role being played reprised by Eddie Murphy. In a recent interview with Extra TV, Eddie Murphy expressed doubt in returning as Foley as “the movie wasn’t ready to be done.” In a later interview with MTV, Murphy stated that he would be returning for a fourth installment. One reason he stated was that “the third Beverly Hills Cop was horrible!” and that he “didn’t want to leave it like that”. Michael Brandt and Derek Haas were hired as screenwriters for the film. Director Brett Ratner has been quoted as saying, “It’ll be back but it’ll be a whole new interpretation.” What that means in code is, “We want to make money, and the way to make money is to make it rise to a similar quality as the original.”

If they can’t bring back Pinchot, they could certainly bring in Manu Ginobili of the San Antonio Spurs to fill in for him, I’m sure he would be more than happy to do it considering his team won’t be getting very far in the post-season anytime in the near future.

Ghostbusters III is another 80′s franchise that has been talked about for some time, only as a fanboy’s dream and fantasy, that is up until now. In a telephone interview, Comingsoon.net talked to writer/director Harold Ramis (Year One, Analyze This, Groundhog Day) and received some details about the upcoming Ghostbusters III project. Harold Ramis and Dan Aykroyd wrote the scripts for the first two movies and both starred with Bill Murray, Ernie Hudson, and Sigourney Weaver. Lee Eisenberg and Gene Stupnitsky, who are regular writers for “The Office”, are developing a first draft of the script and Ramis says that he’s confident that the new movie will feature most if not all of it’s original cast:

“I wrote the story for the new movie with Eisenberg and Stupnitsky, and Dan Aykroyd and I’ve been consulting. We’re just waiting to see a first draft and where we are … Everyone says they’ll do it; they’ve all said they’ll do it. No one has signed anything yet–we haven’t signed anything either–but there’s the spirit of willingness in the air.”

Ramis also touched on whether or not the original Ghostbusters director Ivan Reitman will take control of the new movie:

“I don’t think he wants to; I’m not sure I want to. It’s just a lot of open questions. Until we see a script, I don’t think anyone really knows how they feel about it. Everyone’s open to doing it, that’s the main thing, that’s what got it moving forward.”

Ramis says there will be a much younger team of Ghostbusters for this adventure, with the original characters taking on more of mentorship roles(Bill Murray a mentor?).

With all of that said, “Ghostbusters III” is currently slated for a release sometime in 2012, if that actually comes to fruition or not we will find out.

My only request is that if you are going to bring back installments of these great franchises, please put forth a product that is going to be worthy of the names. If you don’t believe you can produce a great product, don’t do it…otherwise you’ll end up with George Clooney and Val Kilmer trying to be Batman-like results..the same thing that teachers tell us from a very early age about anti-drugs applies directly to this concept, “just say no”.

This man was not one of those people. This man was one who worked hard on the basketball court to produce solid results by becoming a three-time All-American, as well as claiming the record for most points scored by any player in their freshman and sophomore years. He won a gold medal as a member of the 1984 U.S. Olympic basketball team coached by Indiana University’s Bobby Knight, and the Indiana Pacers made Tisdale the second overall pick in the 1985 NBA Draft. As a center and power forward, Tisdale averaged over 15 points and six rebounds per game in a 12-season professional career with the Indiana Pacers, Sacramento Kings and Phoenix Suns. His best season was in 1989-90 with the Kings, when he averaged 22.3 points and 7.5 rebounds a game. Tisdale and Mitch “The Rock” Richmond combined to one of the most dynamic duos in the NBA. In 1997, Tisdale retired to focus on his musical career. Tisdale released his debut CD, Power Forward, in 1995. In 2002, he was awarded the Legacy Tribute Award by the Oklahoma Jazz Hall of Fame. As a result of Tisdale’s fight with cancer, his experiences have led him to create a foundation to raise funds to help amputees with the prosthetic process, which is not always covered by health insurance. His efforts on the court have been doubled by his work in his own surrounding communities as well as throughout the nation.

In April 2009, Tisdale accepted an award from the Greenwood Cultural Center in Tulsa, and then set off on a 21-date national concert tour.

Tisdale died on the morning of May 15, 2009, at age 44, at St. John Medical Center in Tulsa, Oklahoma. He was admitted to the ER for breathing troubles.

I am a musician as well as a fan of the game of basketball, and I will miss this man greatly.

NBC Ends Life

If you weren’t at an NBC press conference back on May 4th, the news that Life (starring Damien Lewis) was being cancelled probably flew in under the radar. For those who didn’t follow the show, this is no big deal. Afterall, Jay Leno needs his new show…

But for those of us who were loyal fans, this might easily have been the best shows on television (yes, Chuck fans. Charlie Crews would kick Chuck Bartowski’s butt!–House gets the overall nod for me because of the time I have invested into it). I didn’t anticipate being a fan of Life, though. Back before the writer’s strike I saw a couple commercials on NBC about the show. It was advertised as a show about a cop who spent 10+ years in prison for a murder he was framed for committing. DNA evidence was found exonerating him and now he wants to get revenge on the people who set him up…oh, and he wants his job back plus a $60+ million settlement (which he gets). Season one was cut short because of the strike, but season two was even better. However, NBC started it off on Fridays (not a great time slot) and then they moved it to Wednesdays (promising). The season (now series) finale was FANTASTIC! I still have it recorded on my DVR and I have watched it several times. The best part, however, was it was left open for more awesome plot lines revolving around the mystery of the LA PD and Charlie Crews. Well, that’s dead unless another network picks it up (doubtful since it will be difficult to carry the series on a new network with all the background required to obtain a new audience on top of the old one).

In short, if you haven’t watched the series you need to get on Hulu and watch Life. Once you’ve seen it, you’ll be just as upset as I am that it didn’t get another shot. Damien Lewis’ Zen charm is Emmy worthy and the beautiful Sarah Shahi shares my birthday.

In the meantime, now that ER is gone, NBC can fall off the planet now.

Oh, and I don’t even watch Lost, but I am upset about what they did to Elisabeth Mitchell. Maybe not Life upset, but upset nonetheless. Can I blame NBC for that?

The Zombie Apocalypse

The day has come, I have finally achieved unlimited rocket launcher ammunition as well as unlimited ammunition on any gun known to man in Resident Evil 5. If any gamers read this article and are wondering about how to go about doing these, be careful who you listen to…but here are the ways to do it:

1.) There’s an actual option you have to unlock called “unlimited ammo” in the game, but the only way to unlock it is to beat the game from beginning to end. Once you’ve beaten the game go into chapter select and switch on the mode “unlimited ammo” to yes.

2.) Even though you have turned on unlimited ammo you need to fully upgrade each gun you wish to have as being infinite. Once you have fully upgraded the weapon of your choice, you must go into the main menu and select “Bonus Features”, and under that there will be an option to exchange points to unlock the specific gun’s unlimited option.

3.) To unlock unlimited rocket launcher ammo you have to beat the entire game in under 5 hours. The RE5 guys make this a bit easier because you can go into individual chapter-select mode and beat one chapter at a time until you get the time of completion down to your desire. The moment that you beat the game in under 5 hours a happy message will bleep up on screen that says “unlimited rocket launcher”, and after that happens you’ll get a cold sense rush through your body and you will hear a faint “oh noooeesss” come from the zombies….not really.

The game was pretty tough, and even frustrating at times, but upon completion and once you’ve taken the liberty to unlock all the unlimited options for weapons you want it becomes even more fun than before. You can tell that the developers knew how much the player would desperately want more ammo, because throughout most of the game unless you headshot every zombie you ever come across, even bosses, you still won’t have enough ammo to make it…so now with unlimited ammo, all I can say is the 4 horsemen of the apocalpyse come in the form of the:

AK-74 ,
Lightning Hawk Magnum ,
RIF Sniper Rifle ,
and the Rocket Launcher .

I think I even heard one zombie whimper out a “please don’t hurt m-” at which point at point blank range he got blasted in the face.

Raja Bell took a Kobe elbow to the face a few plays before this altercation.

Did anyone else catch all of the apologies coming out of the NBA Front Office lately? Ron Artest’s Adam’s Apple hit Kobe’s elbow prompting a technical on Ron. Then a hard foul by Artest later in the game resulted in a Flagrant II and automatic ejection. The league later rescinded the call the next day saying that it wasn’t a flagrant foul. That was nice of them. But Houston still lost and nothing happened to Kobe for his elbow. A couple days later Dallas was up with a few seconds left and had a foul to give. They intentionally fouled the Nugget player, but forgot that the NBA referees don’t like to call fouls in the playoffs…even when you are intentionally trying to foul. As a result, Anthony hit a game winning 3 pointer. The league office apologized for that too.

Where were all these apologies when the Suns were in the playoffs? The Suns have experienced some REALLY bad calls in the post season and all they got was an early exit (even a lousy shirt would have been nice). I especially remember a game in 2006 when Nash was attacked and (surprise) fouled intentionally and no foul was called. Instead, (New York Restaurant Owner) Bennett Salvatore called a jump ball (even though the Laker who was tied up with Nash (Barry White impersonator Luke Walton) was standing out of bounds). This led to a Kobe moment that we all get to see in those FAN TASTIC NBA Playoff commercials. There is no justice I guess.

The NBA: Where fan money is sucked into a dark abyss so that the pockets of David Stern can grow happens.

The NBA: Where at least we aren’t the NHL happens.

The NBA: Where you shouldn’t get your hopes up if you live outside of LA, Boston or Cleveland happens.

High hopes for future of gaming

There has been a drought of quality in games over the past several years where a great game can easily be lost in the midst of sub-par products. The near future has great potential to provide gamers with some of the best games to come out in a very long time. The following are titles that I am looking forward to the most to come out:

1.) Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2

2.) Diablo III

3.) Star Wars: The Old Republic

4.) StarCraft II

5.) The Conduit*

The reason I placed an asterisk by the title is because about 10 years ago an independent group of developers coming from out of nowhere named “Dynamix” showed the entire gaming world what a real team-based FPS game is supposed to be all about, so here’s to hoping that these guys put out a great product. The jury is still out with this game. The Conduit guy has gone from looking like a geeky kid showing up to a nerd convention to looking like a futuristic Johnny Cage from Mortal Kombat.

All of the games that I listed above each have their own potential to be incredible games that will suck the lives away from millions of normal average citizens and transform them into cave-dwelling hermits whose skin burns at the slightest contact with sunlight –

Who knows when StarCraft II or Diablo III will come out, Blizzard seems to be taking their sweet time with both titles and fans world wide have clung to rumors only to end in disappointment. Another RPG, Star Wars: The Old Republic has promise because the vehicle behind it is BioWare, and they have yet to let me down…just hoping this will not be another Star Wars: Galaxies.

In my opinion Modern Warfare 2 will be the redefinition of shooter games by ushering in a new style of teamplay action. This game is the one I am most excited for, and since Infinity Ward is behind it I have full faith that they will spend a considerable amount of time making an incredible game.

Communists, and people who refute the existence of Johannes Gutenberg, that’s who. But for the rest of us, books are a great thing. I mean, Hunger Games*.

If you’re looking to pick up a few books this week- and you should be- you might want to make your way over to PJ Haarsma’s website. You might remember Haarsma from his visit with Booyor last September, and he’s got a charity he started with some guy who was in Professor Awful or something. That charity helps libraries buy books for kids, which I think is a cause we can all support, and you can help buy using the coupon at Haarsma’s website. All for something you probably would have done anyway. So give it a go. There’s always a new book worth picking up.

On a related topic, my sister went and saw a high school production of Doctor Horrible’s Sing-Along-Blog, and she described it as “adorable.” I did find a flickr set of pictures up, and it looks pretty awesome. Mike, I believe you have your spring musical for next year.

Today after I got home from playing for Easter services at my brother’s church, I fell asleep as I had gotten up before any rooster knew what was coming. I was awoken by a loud man’s voice saying, “BILLY MAYS HERE!!!” that sent me in a state of temporary shock trying to figure out if there was an emergency situation around me, all to realize that it was just Billy Mays shouting his message to the rooftops about how much mini-portable lights will keep me from falling down the stairs or over the dog during the night time.

Later on I was watching TV and I came across a guy I’ve never seen before, and I hope to never see again. The product he was pushing was the “Sham-Wow” but he has an interesting approach at trying to get you to buy his stuff. He uses sarcasm and insults the viewer enough to where either the viewer walks away feeling dejected or wants to buy the product just to shut him up.

So I ask, which one is more annoying?

I got my driver’s license today.

A new picture – I guess they require it to be updated every five years. My photo was from my junior year of high school in which I ditched out on study hall (a study hall monitored by a certain coach that started with G and ended with Neck (“You must be smart. I see you read.”)).

The ladies at the counter had to keep checking to see if it was me. Skinny neck, no facial hair, pompadour greased to the side. They agreed that it was time to update the photo.

Crazy situation: the workers were nice.

I showed up at 4:35pm. They close at 5pm but stop serving customers at 4:30pm. (Why not advertise a 4:30pm close time? That extra 30 minutes is Seinfeld-watchin’ time. I don’t know.)

They let me in. It pretty much was the online registration, but now at a kiosk. It took me a while to figure out to scroll down. It just had a statement, but nothing to click on. The woman next to me had the same issue.

Registered, form printed automatically, went to go stand in line for the photo.

I stood in front of the screen to take the photo. I’m bigger than the screen. They made me crouch down.

Next time you see me, ask to look at the card. Definitely a “different” ID.

The greatest nerd show on TV today?

With shows like Heroes, Terminator: The Sarah Connor Chronicles, and The Big Bang Theory on TV nowadays, nerds seem to be getting a lot of attention. But I have to say, the finest of them all doesn’t seem to be as much attention. That show? Chuck.

It may not have the stereotypical science geeks that the Big Bang Theory offers, the franchise history of Terminator, or the genre ties of Heroes, but Chuck is a little different. While the storylines are, to some degree, nerd-centric, the real beauty of it lies in the little things. The casting- Voyager’s EMH as a computer expert, Meriadoc Brandybuck as a British rock star, Imhotep as a Fulcrum agent, and Firefly’s Jayne as the CIA thug. The show’s set decoration and prop choices are second only to The IT Crowd in nerd decorations- I love that Chuck has an issue of Knights of the Dinner Table on his wall, and the fact that he’s put the plans for the intersect into a copy of Ex Machina- a magazine about a guy who has superpowers given to him by a electrical accident- is a pretty brilliant choice. Plus it is loaded with references to other things nerds love- callbacks to Spies Like Us, IG-88 grenades, tickets to Zihuatanejo, and getting an “Oh, boy” from Chuck’s dad? Fantastic. Pile on top of that things like playing arcade games to Rush, a businessman named Lo Pan in Chinatown, jokes about ComicCon, and episodes directed by Lieutenant Tom Paris, and this show is nearly overloaded with the geek love.

One of the greatest things about the show, though, is the nerds- they look like normal people. Sure, they don’t look like most of the people on TV, but you don’t have any of the Urkel-esque “pants hitched up to the waist, snort when I laugh” overdone nerds that you see on, say, The Big Bang Theory or Ugly Betty, which both seem to follow the theory that TV nerds are good looking people made ugly by glasses and bad fashion sense. If you saw any employee of the BuyMore walking down the street, they’d just look normal, rather than Hollywood’s parody of what nerds look like, and that is surprisingly nice to see on TV today.

On top of that, the show is just fun. After following the heavy plots and turns of Heroes and Terminator, it can be pretty nice just to switch off the drama-ometer and enjoy the show. Don’t get me wrong, Chuck has some great plot and tough moments for the characters, too, but it’s never as heavy and dramatic- you’ve always got Morgan, Captain Awesome, or Casey around the corner with some dialogue that’s going to make you laugh after a bit. Sure, it may have similar problems to Heroes, in that so many things in this story seem to tie to people Chuck knows, but I can accept that easier than with Heroes- maybe, somehow, Chuck triggers my suspension of disbelief better than a show about people with superpowers. On the other hand, maybe I’m just willing to forgive a show that doesn’t take itself as seriously. Either way, there is no show out there that triggers my sense of nerdjoy the way that Chuck manages to on a weekly basis.

Holy crap. How much can elementary kids come up with when this day comes up? All I heard were jokes and lies about people either dying, riding unicorns, or even one 2nd grader comes up to me and says, “Guess who I saw today?” and my response was initially a thought to myself “if I ignore him and keep walking, maybe he will go away.” That did not happen how I wanted it to. Infact the kid runs up in front of me tugging on my pants and screams this time “GUESS WHO I SAW TODAY?!?!?” with eyes bulging out of his face, and I respond with, “Barack Obama”, and the boy says, “I SAW DARTH VADER and YOU LOOK LIKE HIM!!” and I responded with silence….puzzled and wondering what I need to do to get away from this psycho as fast as possible, and then the boy yells loud enough for the entire neighborhoodz0r to hear, “APRIL FOOLS”. I looked at him and I said, “haha…guess what….you almost had it right, I’m Darth Sidious..” he looks at me jaw dropped and says “are you really him?” which I followed up with..”No.” and walked away.

It’s all good, but I definitely thought of the high school students that I’ve regularly had the pleasure of working with and it nearly brought tears to my eyes to think, “Just a few weeks ago I was helping students learn about the inner chord structures and progressions found within the piece “Witch and the Saint” and now fast forward and what am I doing? ‘Old McDonald had a Farm”, which if I had it my way would be entitled “Old McDonald had enough of hearing kids sound like fart playing his song so he left the friggin’ barn”

No matter what happens to me during the day good or bad, seeing this picture will always bring out a laugh:

Jesus Rejects Norm

I picture a sad man sitting next to Cliff Clavin, but I think we’re talking about a different Norm.

I’m one for predictability, so much so that this morning one lunch lady handed me a breakfast burrito while another yelled for the back room to go get a strawberry milk. Not once did I actually place an order. (For scientific purposes, the same happens at lunch. Orange chicken with lo mein and apologies if they don’t have any more strawberry milk. You should see the panic if I’m in a hurry and ask for a slice of pizza – straight up dogma shift.)

The trouble is that Jesus is all about relationships.

Formulas are not about relationships.

This is where a majority of Christian self-help books break down, when they start forming lists. We can’t norm interactions with Jesus. He heals by saying, “Get up!” one time (Matthew 9) and for a blind guy in John 9 the healing doesn’t happen until he washes out the mud. But before we start to say, “Well, one couldn’t walk and the other couldn’t see”, check out Mark 10.

Addition: Should we norm Christian leadership? “Follow Christ, stand up for what you believe in, be stoned by the community – The All-New Stephen Method!” “Have everyone respect your religious heritage, become blind, be healed by Jesus, go from town to town getting beat up – Four Steps to a More Paul You” “Reject God, get swallowed by large water creature, have your shelter eaten by a worm, reluctantly see God’s perspective – Daily Devotionals to Read by the Beach”

The trouble, then, is that Jesus works differently in different situations. No formula. Donald Miller is quick to point out, though, that a formula, by making it predictable, takes away the relationship aspect and instead turns Jesus into Jeannie (maybe without the outfit and the blinking, but just as silly).

The formulas propose that if you do this and this, God will respond. When I was a kid I wanted a dolphin for the same reason.

It’s tough to prescribe a process for change aside from

Step 1: Connect with Jesus.
Step 2: Repeat Step 1.

Granted, we feel like there needs to be more, but how much stems from our fear? Maybe I’m the only control freak around here, the fact that I obsessively update a bloggh being prime condemning evidence. Or was that my desire to re-write every episode of Heroes to make it better?

It’s official, game makers cater toward the isolated basement/attic nerd

Resistance: Fall of Man had an epic single player storyline that was far greater and beyond the standard, “I’m in Mars and all I know is I’ve got a gun and I’m killing demons, no-one knows why, but I’m killing demons…*oops* I just farted.” Doom/Quake soldier storyline which has it’s place if you’ve just gotten out of traffic on the 101 freeway in the valley of the sun and you’re looking for a “civilized” way to take out your aggression. The major aspect that drew fans from around the world was the phenomenal “Co-Op Campaign mode” where you got to play the same storyline as two soldiers in split-screen team based style. That still is one of the most fun times I’ve ever had playing a game, because I wasn’t alone in a freakin’ room, and I could actually look at and converse with the person I was playing with in the same room *GASP*

Killzone 2 had been promised to have a patch added on post-launch to incorporate a 4-player campaign co-op. What happens? The game makers a month later come out and say, “It would just be too difficult to add in a co-op, and we don’t see a market for it.” The funniest thing I’ve seen in a long time was the 10 pages that immediately followed of fans ultimately PO’d at the sudden change. Here is the message that I’m getting from game makers nowadays, “We’re going to create multiplayer that will suit the average gamer because we assume they have no friends, play online with people who’s faces they’ve never seen before, have no siblings/cousins to play with, so we’ll screw over the rest of the gaming world that DOES have at least friends or siblings in a real life interraction setting.”

Here’s a message to them:

Any great Final Fantasy game has taken the company SquareSoft(now Square-Enix) at least 2-3 years to create, and any great Metal Gear Solid game has taken the same amount of time roughly. What’s the one thing these two franchises have in common? They’re legacies built on the basis of high quality product and competent game developers because they wanted to do the job right the first time.

I find the excuse, “It’s too difficult to do” a cop-out because some of the greatest games to ever come out were on the original Nintendo and guess what, they were co-op. Graphics have changed, technology has changed, but the one thing that should not change is the will and desire to give the consumer the best product possible. Believe me, you will make your money if you create a game that not only has a great single player storyline, but a great multi player experience as well with the added option of a co-op. Certain games just absolutely call for co-op, like Call of Duty, Battlefront, Resistance, Halo…you get the point.

If the console game makers are really wanting to know the secret to finally defeating the PC in the gaming war here is a hint, you can start by creating a solid and exceptional split-screen co-op option.

Online deathmatch or teamplay has it’s place, believe me I love it just as much as the next person, but it would also be cool to have the added option to be able to play with other people in a real-life setting as well.

Console game makers will never progress in the multiplayer arena if this is who they gear everything towards:

At first I was going to petition for the current practitioners of jurisprudence who follow the bloggh to contribute articles (Dad and Josh, you can still add your thoughts) but then I realized that I have a William Tyndale “English ploughman” thing going on. (Have you seen Google’s timeline results? Very cool.) (So, that High School badge? It’s not dynamic. You shall not get sidebar placement.)

Tonight I was at Fry’s picking up the necessities for taking care of a sick baby. I was sitting in the Scion when an elementary school kid in the truck parked next to me slammed his door into the side of the car. I did get out quickly to check the scratch but pulled back when I realized what a 6’9″ scowling Hairyman must look like to the poor kid.

Now imagine my encounter with humility as a mom with two young kids is sobbing as she gets them into her car. She’s got the scarf and look of a chemotherapy patient. As she’s crying, I’m thinking, “Do I treat her kids to Baskin Robbins? I have to get home. Should I go get them dinner?” While my brain is in discourse, I watch as a group of women from all walks/sedans/SUVs of life, including a cashier in full uniform, come support this woman and comfort her. People surprise me. (To feel like you were in the Scion with me, check out what I was listening to.)

Think about all of the heartache that we see/endure/cause during the course of one day. Opportunities.

The first response I get is the person I take with me on this grand adventure.

Wacky fun land is, in fact, truth in advertising. Any takers?

My Nokia 5300 screen is nearly unreadable in the bottom 3/4 of the screen. A big crack had started in the top part of the plastic but had been fine for a while. Today, though, all of its techy goodness bled through. I am now going through my connections trying to wrangle up a phone for the busier of my two semesters (good ol’ AIMS).

Day-ruiner, right? Not so, Mr. Obsessive Bloggher. Tonight I went to Third Format to see a friend be baptized.

Me. 6’9″. In tears more so than the baby I was holding. I was very excited to be there and witness the work of a God who still reminds me that he’s a lot more infinite than me and keeps his promises. Strunk, I’m proud of you.

This is Jason and I.

To clarify, we are driving in my van (not the Scion…very important to the narrative). It is midnight. We are following behind two guard dogs.

It’s the bloggh. What were you expecting?

To give this some context: The dog on the left is the cactus-climbing German shepherd from a previous post. The other is a boxer. Both will try to bite you and do not come to doggie biscuits, even if you dump half a bag into the back of your minivan.

“Here, doggies. We’re strangers and we have candy.”

The German shepherd greeted me as I was bringing my friend Jason over so he could sleep before his flight to The East (East being Chicago then Grand Rapids and then New York). We were chatting and I recognized the German shepherd as my neighbor’s dog. Much craziness ensued (and a very patient, weary traveler got dogherding lessons instead of intellectual conversation over coffee).

The dogs were frolicking together but were not coming to the car. I had knocked and rang the doorbell of my neighbor’s house but they would not answer. As Jason and I tracked the dogs, my wife went next door and knocked and rang the doorbell. In the middle of the night, someone should be home. No one answered. My goal was to get the dogs into the van and then pull the van up to the gate and let them out. Biting and running stood in the way of this.

And the dogs were running towards a busy street.

Jason and I whipped the van around, shone the lights, honked the horn, and herded the dogs back to the heart of the neighborhood and to a park where there wasn’t traffic. Picture the dogs trotting in sled dog fashion and if one tried to break and run for a yard I would honk and get the dog back in line. This led to me honking my horn at midnight every two or three houses for a couple of blocks. Much props to Jason who would jump out periodically to run and try and catch the dogs. He later said, winded, that he hadn’t run that much since elementary school.

This is our Cloverfield version of the event. Does the Good Samaritan law cover me from charges of driving on the wrong side of the road? This is why we go by Booyor, kids.

I was able to get the dogs to hang out at the park. They would not get in the van. My neighbors would not answer the door. And Animal Control believes that pets should only be lost from 8am to 5pm and deserve only a voice mail if lost when inconvenient. I didn’t see the dogs at the park this morning and this makes me sad.

Master Predictor (and other dog fans), is there anything else I could do? I know the German shepherd had a collar but no tag. I didn’t get a good look at the boxer considering it was trying to bite us.

The frustrating part was the lack of help. One guy made us wait while he pulled his truck out and didn’t stop to help. Another instance involved a couple of people hanging out next to the park who said, “Yeah, that sucks” and offered no help. Neighbors were standing in the street today talking about hearing honking and seeing dogs in the street. Because this is normal?

The rest of the visit was enjoyable, though. Don’t get me wrong.

My wife and I took our kids out tonight to celebrate the end of Break and all of the hard work put into keeping the house clean. (And perhaps to talk about Tom Nook’s remodeling of The Cranny.)

I like to think that my oldest is very talented beyond her years, but I guess Chili’s has stricter expectations:

Seen that new trailer for X-Men Origins: Wolverine yet?

Other than the super-cheese of the helicopter jump, and the fact that Emma Frost looks absolutely nothing like I’d expect, I’m pretty psyched. I’m glad they’re sticking to Wolverine’s little Lord Fauntleroy backstory, and the shots of him in the various wars around history were cool- too bad we won’t get a bit of Wolverine fighting alongside Captain America in WWII, though.

Sidenote: I find it interesting that, by their uniforms, Wolverine is going ashore at Omaha Beach with the 29th Infantry. What, he couldn’t have gone ashore at Juno Beach with the 3rd Canadian Infantry? Hopefully they’ll at least show him with the Devil’s Brigade in WWI.

But beyond that nitpicking? Seriously, people- Gambit. All my rationalization gets overwhelmed by nerd glee at the scene where he starts fighting with the staff and throwing things around with telekinesis. Ladies and gentlemen, that is what I have been waiting through three X-Men movies to see.

Well, two- I still like to pretend the third X-Men movie never happened.

Topic for discussion: Better nerd show: Heroes or Chuck? I ask both in terms of quality of the show, and in qualifications as a “nerd show.” Both are, of course, subjective.

Also, as a late addition: a review of the Doctor Horrible DVD, by a completely unbiased source.

For those of you who know me personally, you know that this year has been an interesting one full of transitions. The last dagger that I was hit with was that my normal hair cut place is now charging 40 bucks for a guy’s hair cut, and unless that’s going to be a life-changing hair cut experience with a shampoo hair massage by a super model, it’s not worth the 40 bucks.

Today was the start of my journey to find a comparable place that wasn’t expensive, and I took someone’s advice and headed over to the Arrowhead mall salon in JC Penny’s. I was surprised that I could get in without waiting for an appointment, but then I realized why when I was greeted by this:

This woman, to me, looked like what would be produced if my grandma’s old chain smoking decrepit neighbor and Emperor Palpatine had a love match. I was gauged about 3 different times around the neck and ear, and the conversation went about like this: Haircutter- “Come with me.” Slade- “Ok.” and dead silence from then on until she pulled out a hair gel bottle called, and I kid you not, “Short Fit Sexy Hair…guaranteed for Hard up hair” and right after I got past the initial w…t…h.. reaction I said, “Don’t ever use anything with the word ‘Sexy’ in it on me.”

I ended up walking out and my hair looked like this:

First, thank you to J and crew for watching my two kids today. In a day that started with a film project, I’ve been kinda busy. While eating lunch, a pipe under the sink burst. It is now fixed (as far as I can tell…whenever I make repairs I hold my breath until I forget about it).

I propose a hypothesis: the number of trips to Home Depot will be directly proportional to the importance of the repair. After the third visit to Home Depot within a two hour span, I realized that it was a good thing to get the sink fixed.

Water is flowing freely, flowing like…water, I guess.

A neighborly gent commented, “Ah. The joys of home ownership.” I muttered under my breath a less than joyous response. Tonight, though, we sat down to watch Kit Kittredge (keep in mind the demographics of my house) and people were losing their homes to foreclosure.

In a time where people are struggling and some losing their houses, I’m thankful for what I’ve been given.

Now to shower and get the iron shavings out of my hair and eyes.

Addition: This is the first time where I’ve been helped by a sales assistant at Home Depot. I was helped three separate times, representing the three trips. I think it’s my Amish beard. I’m no longer a suspected thief but now a reputable barn raiser.

Finally, it’s a reality…Guitar Hero: Metallica brings the music of one of my favorite rock bands of all time to the gaming systems. Ever since the original Guitar Hero came out I always thought that the franchise isn’t really complete until they pick up some of the greatest and most challenging hits from Metallica. There’s nothing like ripping through songs like “Enter Sandman” and “Master of Puppets”.
The only thing I really hope they include is some sort of bonus tracks for the Symphonic-enhanced versions of their songs. Next up…Guitar Hero: Genesis! (Not likely but I’d be one of the first to pick that up)

Resistance 2 is on the way with a release date of November 4th. I can’t wait for this game to come out, and I can’t believe it’s finally here. With Square-Enix having betrayed their fanbase and crossed the lines by having Final Fantasy on both XBox 360 and PS3, this game is the only thing that PS3 owners can hold over the XBox owners’ heads.

I’ve been working on the district site and delving into PHP programming. I stressed for an hour as to why my logos were showing up but not my links. I even searched some crazy articles.

Then it hit me after dinner. index.php was what I put up today. index.html was from the weekend. I hadn’t removed it from the server and the browser defaulted to it instead of the .php. I had wondered why it wasn’t updating.

I’m sure this has happened to all of you.

Simple solution: delete the old file.

Also, The Conduit may have a publisher. On the Sega ftp site, they had a folder up for The Conduit, suggesting by their web presence that they will be hosting The Conduit.

The Star Wars Portion
First, every single time I watch A New Hope, I tear up at The Force theme, the song that plays right when Luke screams, “No!” and starts firing randomly after the Kenobi/Vader duel. Every time.

I finished Force Unleashed today. There are some moments with the Apprentice theme that the same feelings occur. It does capture the Star Wars mood. And a battle damaged Vader versus the Apprentice, with Apprentice screaming, “You should have killed me when you had the chance!” as you are locking Wii Remotes quickly and savagely to push Vader back – yeah, fanboy moments galore (ever want to throw a squad of stormtroopers into a test-firing Death Star chamber?). Nice job on fanboy moments, LucasArts…now to make a classic game. We’ll see about replay value. It’s pretty much paced like a movie.

Today was the funeral for an old student from our junior high and on Sunday I have the funeral for my friend Chuck. If you see me in person and wonder if my heart is worn out, it is. Today was a good day for Star Wars. (On that topic – when are we meeting, paper and pencil friends? (Non-gamers have now assumed that I make origami companions.))

The “Happy Tech Could Help” Portion
Hey, the message from Renaissance Bible Church is up. We put it up earlier this week, but I got distracted by a Legend of Zelda theme that burned my brain. Check out their podcast for the message. Some context: the local church body that isn’t connected to Wachovia is connected to Lehman Brothers, so Matthew 6 is kinda gutsy and needed. He’ll mention how a “Don’t Worry, Be Happy” mentality is like telling someone to not think of something: they automatically think of that unwanted thing. To demonstrate, he mentions some “meal” involving bacon, syrup, and I’m assuming a defibrillator. For my non-Southern readers, substitute a steak (or, in my case, a toss up between sashimi and a Hot Pocket (although the Pillsbury Toaster Strudels bring back good memories)(Did I mention that I lost 10 pounds unintentionally using Wii Fit?)).

The Baked Goods Portion
Really, you should check out that Toaster Strudel website. Flaky crust Flash player hotspots. Peter laughs then cries.

The Proud Father Portion
My oldest got complimented in pre-school today. The teacher sat my wife down to tell her that my oldest is very artistically advanced. Woo! My daughter also has made up a word. To remember which feet her shoes go on, she calls them a backwards butterfly. Her word for that?

doval (n) – DOH-val a backwards butterfly; usage – “To remember which shoes go on which feet, ask yourself: Does this look like a doval?”

The first time she said it I thought she said dovin basal. (Refer back to The Star Wars Portion.)

The “Okay, So I’m Not Quite So Jaded, Just Cautious” Section
I went back to read my reviews of Obama’s Audacity of Hope (Review 1, 2, and 3) Even then I was jaded about this election, it was just in haiku form.

I remember enjoying the book, for the most part, but finding some key parts that bugged me. Check out the 1, 2, and 3 links for more detail. His peer evaluations for teachers has some flaws and he does clump in National Right to Life with the NRA, which makes me kinda cringe. I do (non-sarcastically) like Obama’s megalomania quote.

Innocent blood and a distaste for extremes: I wish we could take an average of the two parties. My big issue is abortion, plain and simple. It’s like a William Wilberforce abolitionist issue with me. Where were the slaveholder’s rights? Sometimes we have to infringe when it’s life-death issues. This is not a Republican/Democrat thing, because you can bet if Giuliani (or, my goodness, Bob Packwood) was the Republican option, I would not stick with party ties. Being a father of a daughter born a month early and the brother-in-law to a guy born two months early, we must be very cautious as to when we determine a person is a person. Yes, I agree with Obama that we need to increase the Family and Medical Leave Act to help with the financial burden of having a child. (Although I have more than one co-worker who is spending way too much money to adopt a child…there’s a disconnect.) Something that I think is forgotten is that rich women have abortions, too.

Check out my good friend from college (Mike, you’ll want to click) who just got accepted to be an adoptive parent.

I’m also a big proponent of feeding the poor (taking care of widows and orphans and all that). The government and big business do not have a good track record with this, both Democrat and Republican. This is why two of my mentors, Randy Alcorn and Don Miller, are sometimes at odds. (Although now seeing Donald Miller’s “Mentoring For President ’08″, I dig Don even more.)(To add info that Don Miller doesn’t have is that McCain goes to North Phoenix Baptist. I can’t see into either candidate’s heart, though.)

The Phoenix Suns center Shaquille O’Neal(The Big Aristotle, The Big Cactus, The Big Asthmatic) has undergone a total personality change. From the troubles of his time in Miami where the team was on a 17 game losing streak, to the Kobe drama in which he performed a rap about how Kobe can’t win without him, to losing in the first round of last years playoffs to the San Antonio Spurs. He’s now noticeably much happier in his tone, and appears to be on the offensive against Spurs coach Greg Popovich.

As anyone who has ever been around a New York nightclub can attest, Suns center — legend, sheriff, rapper, etc. — Shaquille O’Neal tends to shoot from the hip/lip when he gets in front of a microphone. He’s like Charles Barkley, but with a deeper voice and rhythm.

Well, Sports 620 KTAR had a mic at Suns practice Tuesday, so, naturally, The Big Outspoken did what he does best: talk. The money quote came when he was asked about the Suns’ first-round loss to the Spurs in last year’s playoffs. O’Neal said he didn’t mind that “Hack-a-Shaq” strategy wasn’t changed in the rules during the offseason, but that there is no need to do it when a team is up 10 points. Shaq, via FanHouse:

“When you’re down, I can see using that as a strategy. But when you’re up 10, 15 points, there’s really no need for that. That’s a coward move. And he knows that. I’ll make ‘em pay for that.”

You hear that, Gregg Popovich? You’re a coward! A coward hiding behind a beard!

And the fun/embarrassment didn’t stop there. Later in the media scrum — earmuffs, Nash and Raja! — Shaq asks how he’s supposed to stay in front Tony Parker and company if the Phoenix guards can’t, and then notes a blown defensive rotation on Tim Duncan’s [fudge'n] three in Game 1. He also takes credit for James Posey and Jason Kapono’s fat free agent contracts.

I’m a fan of Shaq. I think the guy is one big goofy guy who doesn’t take too much seriously unless you tell him he can’t. This will be an interesting year as the Suns vs. Spurs heat seems to be turning up once again.

BTW, Shaq is responsible for leading the efforts to world peace if anyone hasn’t noticed.

We’re home from North Carolina. Much thank yous to Jeremy for picking us up and getting us home. It was very appreciated after the Charlotte to St. Louis to Home stand-by flight.

St. Louis, you’re on notice.

While waiting for one of the flights, I got a call from a co-worker that my friend Chuck had passed away while I was gone. We shared a wall when I was a Language Arts teacher. I’m very glad that I went out to visit him in the hospital. It’s very strange when work world meets with real life and I cry for a co-worker. I’m learning.

Thank you to the fun family in North Carolina for a great retreat. We will have to implement more coffee/impromptu songs/Catanian Rebellions/Mickey D’s Sweet Tea on this coast.

I went to Renaissance Bible Church today in Charlotte, NC.

Pastor Brian preached on Matthew 5 and 6 and connected it very appropriately to a community where the majority of the congregation works for Wachovia or has dealings with Lehman Brothers.

Worry has taken on a new face.

What’s funny is that the majority of the time our worries are not the same that we had last year (or even a month ago). He started out the sermon running on a treadmill. Worry is like a treadmill where you expend energy but don’t go anywhere. He also hooked us with photos of people who work stressful jobs:

Stressful lifestyles and anxiety break us down.

When you take into consideration the people that Jesus was talking to (if you couldn’t afford to pay taxes there was no bailout, there was jail) it’s great that he reminds them of who made them.

The creation story in Genesis 1 is a poem that crescendoes with God’s treasured creation: us. If we read it as simply a scientific proof we lose the love.

I’m going to help Bobby figure out the new audio recorder that he bought and hopefully we can get the new sermon audio online. Also, remind me to show you his MacBook screen fix.

A group of teens from church is held up at the border. My understanding is that because they’re bringing appliances across the border, the troopers on the Mexican side of the border want some money.

It should be noted that the appliances (washing machines, dryers), materials, and all that are for an orphanage that got worked by a hurricane.

Please pray.

Haven’t heard an update yet, but please also pray for the people of Mosul.

Update: “Starbound got through the border at about 2:30pm Saturday. Almost 20 hrs after they arrived. They were able to get the bribe down to $600 and, praise the Lord, were able to keep all of the donations they were taking to the orphanage.
God’s timing is always perfect.”

WHAT IN THE WORLD IS GOING ON?!?!?

Remember when you were at Boys State and you wanted your guy to win the election for Governor, but the Boys State paper decided to endorse the other guy and illegally hand their paper out at the polling site? Then your guy lost? Well, imagine the same thing, but the paper decides that they are going to also pick the voters up, give them some food or money, and then walk them over to the polling place with instructions on who to vote for.

Please! This isn’t getting out the vote. It’s voter fraud. And it proves that the founding fathers knew what they were talking about when they created the electoral college.

I was doing my Saturday-morning-reading-and-a-bagel tradition, and I came across this:

“And when Jesus had cried out again in a loud voice, he gave up his spirit. At that moment the curtain of the temple was torn in two from top to bottom. The earth shook and the rocks split. The tombs broke open and the bodies of many holy people who had died were raised to life. They came out of the tombs, and after Jesus’ resurrection they went into the holy city and appeared to many people. When the centurion and those with him who were guarding Jesus saw the earthquake and all that had happened, they were terrified, and exclaimed, ‘Surely he was the Son of God!’”

We just glaze over this as we read. Can you imagine what it would be like for those few hours when death got all jacked up?
